This Rap was written by a 25-year-old serving prisoner while he was working with young people on KeepOut – The Crime Diversion Scheme. He saw the similarities between his own attitude and life choices when he was growing up, and those of the young people attending KeepOut workshops. He wanted them to understand the consequences of committing crime and the reality of being sent to prison – because he had received a life sentence when he was just 18 years old.

Writing a Rap, he decided, was the best way to get his message across to them. He performed it during KeepOut sessions at HMP Coldingley, where his words really connected with the young people. The feedback from them was phenomenal.
